From the moment she sat down, I knew this meeting would be different. Her energy. Her focus. The electricity rolling off of her as she shifted and fidgeted in the uncomfortable chairs that dotted the coffee shop we chose for this first encounter. As a coach, sure, I had seen all of this before, but the intensity that surrounded her told me that this one was something special.

She had a story to tell.

As she began talking she reached down into her huge Mary Poppins style bag and began pulling out notebooks, folders, scraps of paper, sticky notes…..if it could hold words it soon littered the table between us. I picked through the pile of memories, trying to tie the papers in front of me to the words spilling from her mouth. This wasn’t a new story. She had literally carried these faded notes with her for years as she moved through her life. She tried to put it behind her, but the story was too big. It refused to be quiet and fade away into mere memory. It was swirling like a living thing in her head until finally a friend shared my name and she reached out to set this meeting.

 I would help her bring her story to life. It’s what I do after all. But the question hung in the air as it always does….why?

Why did she wait so long to share her voice?

Why did she carry these memories and experiences around for decades before finally letting the words flow from her heart to the page?

Why did the process of writing a book intimidate this larger than life woman into silence?

These questions often hang in the air during my client meetings. The answers vary some in flavor and length, but it all comes down to one fairly simple factor.

People feel stuck.

They know that they want to write a book. The story swirling around in their head tells them that much. What they don’t know is how to do it. When you look at that 50,000 count needed to bring a novel to life it tends to become a daunting and unobtainable number. Many people struggle with working through anything longer than an email…..how on earth can they ever hope to write a book?  

And so with a sign and a dropped pen, these stories fade into the books we never write. Those moments and memories we so want to share with the world yet fail to actually write because the process scares us in a way that the stories don’t.

To me this is tragic. All of these amazing voices silenced before they even find their words. Sure, they know what they want to say but they struggle with how to bring these moments to life and share them with the world.

This is why 12 week book came to be. Because I only have so many hours in a day and I can only write so many books regardless of how much I love the story, the voice or the author.

I am limited. 

But…..teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.

This program is designed to help you find your voice. To help you focus in on first finding the right book and then bringing that book to life for the world to soak up and enjoy.

If I told you today that in 12 short weeks you could be holding your first draft you might think I was making promises I couldn’t keep. But with focus, dedication and a little time, you can absolutely make this happen.  Your job is to follow the system we lay in front of you. To stay focused and dedicated as one day rolls into two and 1 week rolls into 7. As you do your page count will grow as the words begin to flow. Soon you have a concept, a storyline, a chapter until one day you sit back and realize…..you have a book!
